On 29 March, 2009 British Midland International (BMI), the British airline started to operate regular flights to Boryspil airport en-route London – Kyiv- London using Airbus A 320 aircraft 5 times per week.
At the planeside the crew was welcomed by Borys Shakhsuvarov, the General Director of the airport. Together with Peter Spencer, the Managing Director of BMI they cut the ribbon. Borys Shakhsuvarov warmly greeted the guests on the Ukrainian land with flowers. In B Terminal Business Lounge a presentation of the airline was held by Peter Spencer for mass media. He spoke about the airline in brief, about BMI plans for future and answered the questions of the journalists. 
The Boryspil airport always welcomes the coming of new airlines to Ukrainian market and tries to create all conditions for adapting of the newcomers at the airport and their development in future. By the end of 90s the volume of passenger air carriage exceeded 6,5 million pax/year. In 2000 the British Midland joined Star Alliance. This involved the rebranding of the airline as BMI British Midland. Currently BMI operate flights to 30 countries worldwide. The wide network of domestic and international routes over Great Britain provides BMI sustainable growing passenger flow which reached 10,6 million passengers in 2007. The BMI fleet consists of 55 aircraft: A330-200 – 3 aircraft, A321-200 – 8 aircraft, A320-200 – 13 aircraft, A319-100 – 11 aircraft, Boeing 757-200 – 2 aircraft, Embraer 145 – 14 aircraft, Embraer 135 – 4 aircraft.
